Africa Elite

This year’s Africa Elite is an in-depth look at the energy and power sector across the continent. Using 10 years’ worth of Thomson Reuters deals data it explores the international firms that have been most active in this space. In addition to taking a pan-continental view of the sector the report will also look more in depth at the firms winning the most work in oil-driven Nigeria, coal-fired South Africa and gas-centric Egypt. Many of the leading international firms operating in the region have contributed to the report, which also profiles key general counsel from the region as well as the general counsel of a number of international energy and power companies that are active across Africa.

As well as taking a long-term look at the firms that have been working in the region the report explores the issues now facing businesses and law firms in the face of falling commodities prices and examines the opportunities that Africa presents in a $30-oil environment.

This is the third year The Lawyer has published the Africa Elite and unlike in previous reports focuses solely on the international firms operating in the region. It has also been broadened out from Sub-Saharan Africa to focus on the entire continent.

The report will be of interest to anyone operating in the energy and power sector as it explores the challenges low oil prices pose but also examines the wealth of diversification opportunities Africa offers.

Law firm partners and several general counsel have taken part, sharing their insight and experience of working in this challenging sector.
